Alpe d’Huez is truly like no other destination. With over 250km of linked piste including 'La Sarenne', Europe's longest black run (not for the faint hearted!) AND a WHOPPING 300 DAYS OF SUN (which is why it is know locally as "L'ile au Soleil" (Island of the Sun)), Alpe d’Huez is the only place you want to be for your skiing holiday. We know, we ski, we snow board AND we love the place. It was so easily our favourite we bought two chalets just so we could spend more time here……and now we do.
For Summer Sports and Biking Holidays
OK if you are into biking the last thing you need to be told is about just how great the riding and biking is in and around the area of Alpe d’Huez. From the km upon km of riding to the Tour de France. You would have already have heard about it all. There is a reason why for almost every year since 1976, a stage finish has been hosted for the Tour de France. The climb to the resort is famous. With an average gradient of 8 degrees and lasting 14km with 21 hairpin turns, many a biking enthusiast has ridden the course. HOWEVER this yet but one of the many places to ride in the area and only ONE of the possible summer events that also include things like, paragliding, walking, hiking, caving, rock climbing, base jumping, hand-gliding or just soaking up the rays. Summer in Alpe d’Huez is just as spectacular and fun as winter for those wanting any of the above summer holidays.
